Komodo Dragon Project
Conservation of Komodo dragons on Flores Island, an island outside the protection area of Komodo National Park
The Komodo Dragon Project – Wae Wuul Protection Plan, led by Italian herpetologist Dr. Claudio Cioffi, its main objective is to protect the population of Komodo dragons in Wae Wuul, preventing the expansion of human invasion. The project has four main components: community awareness, patrol, law enforcement, participation of the local community in protection and conservation, and the development of training such as the surveillance center of the area.
It has achieved a great raising awareness of local communities, increasing the education, preparation and training effort of people dedicated to the protection of dragons. With this it has been achieved stop the capture for the illegal market of wild animals and local habitat destruction of the dragons, increasing the species' hope for survival.
