PROJECTS

Rhino Dog Squad Project

Collaborate in the monitoring of rhino populations in Kenya, generate patrols of environmental agents and train trained dogs to detect signs of poachers.

What is
the project

El white rhino (Ceratotherium simum), especially the northern subspecies (Ceratotherium simum cottoni), of which only two copies at the planet. They are currently facing an increased crisis due to the pressure of poaching to which they are subjected in their territories of origin. Right now, if something dramatic is not done to protect them, they are doomed to extinction in the wild. There is no single method for its protection, and the pressing need is for a wide range of coordinated activities.

To stop rhino poaching, it is essential to have a team of agents in the field who are well trained and properly equipped, motivated and correctly deployed, as they face dangerous situations in the field every day.

The training and maintenance of a paw patrol, composed of trained dogs and trainer guides, is that track the smells and signs of possible poachers that threaten the safety of the free-ranging rhino population in Kenya.

This way, the dogs are able to stay one step ahead of the poachers, and detect their presence in the area, thanks to the incredible sense of smell of these animals, which are capable of obtaining a certain smell even from a footprint on the ground and chasing it. until we find the origin. They are trained to detect scents of rhino horn, weapons or ammunition, and are prepared to attack and detain suspected poachers, supporting the human guide who directs and trains them.

What have we
achieved?

Generate patrols that stop poaching, raise awareness and educate the population, making them part of the solution to the problem, promote the translocation of animals to areas with better reproduction possibilities and continue fighting against the demand for rhino horn products from the countries developed.
