El center is intended to house wild animals, mainly sea turtles and seals, which can appear stranded on our shores and are rescued by the staff of the Stranding Network of the Principality of Asturias. The project is co-financed with the Biodiversity Foundation.

La construction of said center It is located at the back of the BIOPARC Aquarium of Gijón, includes vats to house the collected animals and also auxiliary areas such as a laboratory for analysis and data collection from the animals. The center has direct access to sea water. In addition, the Aquarium staff is highly qualified and has the knowledge and many years of experience to treat and recover these types of animals, sea turtles and seals.

The work will be linked to research that will allow collaboration with other entities to be able expand scientific-technical knowledge about marine fauna and help protect the environment. Through education and dissemination it is intended contribute to raising awareness among citizens about the importance of conservation of the environment.
