At the BIOPARC Foundation we work to protect gorillas in Africa and are committed to bringing these species closer to society in order to mobilise towards their preservation together with the parks of Fuengirola and Valencia.
Did you know that World Days allow us to focus attention on various topics? On this day, The Gorilla's Day is celebrated, in order to raise awareness about the critical situation of the populations of this species in Africa.
The date honors the legacy of a woman who gave her life fighting to defend them, Dian Fossey, who in his book Gorillas in the Mist already expressed the need to make known the wonderful nature and its biodiversity by stating: "The only way to save an endangered species is to understand it."

World Gorilla Day 2024.
Through our BIOPARC concept, Foundation and our parks Fuengirola, Valencia and the Gijón Aquarium We continue the legacy of the visionary Fossey by bringing to Spain a novel way of emotionally connecting people with nature.
Offering immersive experiences to see animal species like never before in an environment that faithfully recreates their habitat, with the aim of fostering understanding through creativity and art.

Our commitment is global, which is why we direct our activity towards on-site projects in the biodiversity hotspots And for more than ten years we have been coming supporting projects, such as Ebo in Cameroon, whose objective is Study and protect the Ebo forest, a valuable sanctuary for gorillas and other species.

As we have previously mentioned in our BIOPARC participates in the ex situ programs called EEP of the EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums) created with the sole objective of ensuring the survival of endangered species and avoiding their extinction by maintaining viable populations under the strict control of specialists in conservation and animal welfare.

We have 15 individuals that host the largest group of gorillas in Spain and with the success of controlled breeding we are a reference in the European Conservation Program for this species in critical danger of extinction according to the IUCN Red List.
We have a prominent role In this sense and we host the largest group of lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) of Spain with 15 individuals. In addition, thanks to the success of this controlled breeding, the first gorillas were born, 5 in total: Ekan in Fuengirola and Ebo, Virunga, Pepe and Félix in Valencia.

Once again we want to remind you that They are “Critically Endangered” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List., an organization that has insisted on the vital contribution of parks to avoid a tragic and irreversible end.
